The newly established “HEALTH Lab | Competence Centre for Medical and Health Psychology” at SFU’s Faculty of Psychology is dedicated to researching and improving the quality of life of different population groups. Our focus is on people with health restrictions, such as rare and chronic diseases, as well as healthy populations, such as rainbow families.

Fields of activity at a glance

  • Quality of life research: Through qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods studies, we gain comprehensive insights into the quality of life of our target groups.
  • Interventions: We develop and evaluate effective intervention strategies to improve quality of life.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration: Experts from psychology, medicine, computer sciences and other disciplines work together on innovative solutions.

Our focus

Medical psychology: We research the psychosocial effects of rare and chronic diseases and develop strategies to support those affected and their relatives.
Health psychology: Our mission is to promote health and well-being in a resource-orientated way by investigating factors such as stress management and social support. We develop interventions to promote health and prevent illness.
