>> Summer School in Psychotherapy Research 2013

08. - 13. July 2013

Aim
Psychotherapy research deals with the application of adequate scientific methods in order to describe, explain, comprehend and evaluate psychotherapy. It aims at bridging clinical prac-tice with scientific investigation, in order to increase our understanding of how psychotherapy works. As the interest among practitioners and researchers has considerably increased in the last years, there is the necessity for them to develop adequate and specific theoretical knowledge and applicative competencies.
The 2013’s edition of this summer school will mainly focus on the relationship between psychotherapy as a profession and psychotherapy as a science, which represent the two main perspectives from which psychotherapy can be considered. The school will provide students and participants with theoretical knowledge and practical competences necessary to: (i) understand one of the main issues around which the relationship between psychotherapy as a profession and psychotherapy practice has been discussed, i.e., the gap between psychotherapy practice and research; (ii) “extend” the boundaries of this discussion by pointing out psychotherapy as a profession and as a science belong to two distinct epis-temological realms; (iii) use the English language for academic purposes (argumentation, structure, style, referencing, etc.) in the context of psychotherapy research; (iv) develop and discuss a research project in psychotherapy research.

Participants
The school is primarily directed towards doctoral students, assistants, researchers and clinicians from all European countries who are actively interested and engaged in psychotherapy research. The school is intended for a maximum of 35 participants.

Coursework
The courses include structured lectures and interactive workshops. Students are moreover invited to submit abstracts regarding research-projects or general psychotherapy research related issues. To this aim, session of research consultation seminar will be organized, to allow the students to discuss with the teaching staff and with colleagues.
