Psychotherapeutic Expertise
Course contents: This course will discuss requirements, structures and ethical implications of the psychotherapeutic expertise. It will also describe different fields of psychotherapeutic activity in which expert reports are used.
Course aim: Subject-based and methodological skills: Development of a satisfactory contextual and systematic understanding of psychotherapeutic assessment and a solid theoretical understanding of these three systems and their concrete, practical application for each patient where there is sufficient work experience. Key skills, social skills and personal competencies: In addition to subject-specific knowledge and skills, the criteria have to be acquired as well as basic legal knowledge, i.e., administrative law, liability law, and administrative court decisions. This requires an extension in particular of objectifying skills and critical examination of both the psychotherapeutic and the relevant legal conditions, as well as of empathy/perspective taking, people skills, critical awareness, perception, self-discipline, and cross-cultural competence. In doing this, diagnostic criteria and interview techniques will have to be developed, and a differentiated approach taken towards the delicate issues of the obligation to inform and partial confidentiality in expert reports.
Final goal: Students will be able to use the acquired theoretical knowledge and basic structures to create psychotherapeutic expert reports on their own.

This course will introduce and discuss existing results of comparative psychotherapy research and also present research methods and designs that allow a comparison between different treatments or patient groups, or between treated versus untreated patients. Applications of these methods and ethical issues in this context will be discussed.
